My Precious

What: Waterford Crystal Lismore Carafe and Wine Set
Where: (it came from) Ireland (Waterford Crystal is originated from Waterford, Ireland)
When: (was it given) February 2004
Who: (gave it) ADLK colleagues (ADI Limerick TSM team - design, design evaluation and test development engineers)
Why: (was it given) Wedding gift (given few weeks earlier than the wedding date)
How: Handcarried by my (former) offshore boss

I've been assigned (years ago - while I was still working for ADI) for few months offshore "work" in ADI Ireland (which we also call ADLK) for three consecutive years but I never had the courage to buy even a small piece of artwork from Waterford Crystal because of it's "for your eyes only" price tags. Few of my Filipino colleagues who have earned their target savings from our per diem allowances have bought themselves a small piece or two while what most of us, who visited the main outlet in Waterford county, only did "window shopping" and of course, picture taking.

I must be very lucky to have worked with the entire TSM-LK team who were so generous to buy me (and my soon to be hubby at that time), not just a small piece from the crystal store, but a big item - not one piece - but a set of three.

On February 2004, few weeks before our wedding set on March 6 of the same year, my Irish boss went to visit the Philippines plant (ADGT) for business meetings with the management, and with our local team as well. On the day he went to Cavite, he went down to our workplace carrying a huge paper bag. Some of my colleagues started to look as he headed to my seat, said his hello, offered me a handshake, gave me a hug and a kiss, and finally handed me that huge paper bag.

At the glance of it, all I can do is smile (and I think my smile was from ear to ear). The package inside was triangular with the mark "Waterford Crystal". Actually, the huge paper bag itself was marked with the said brandname. He said it's from the whole of TSM-LK team. Inside the bag was also a huge greeting card which I opened right after he left my seat. I was so happy to see the familiar names from those I've worked with and those that I just knew by name and face.

When he left, one of my friends approached me and said "I bet that costs __K Php". On the other hand, my local boss uttered "Lucky you!" followed by "Maybe I should get married again so I can receive the same gift package as yours." One friend, who just heard from others about the present, came to me asking, "hey, can you open it now for everyone to see?" Other colleagues from different work area also came to curiously ask what's inside the huge paper bag.

Since the set was given before our wedding, my housemate and friend (who was also trying to quote the set) suggested (or actually insisted) that we should use it on our wedding day for the wine toasting part of the wedding (reception) ceremony.

We then brought the set, handled with all loving care, along with us when we went up to Baguio a week before our wedding date. I had to instruct the hotel wedding attendant several times to ensure that the set will be used during our reception and that it should be brought back to us after the reception. Oh well, I didn't have to tell them what to do after the wedding party as I made sure myself that the set is carried back to our room while the reception area was being cleaned up.

The triangular packaging is still intact up to now, that huge paper bag has been crumpled though. After our recent vacation, I surfed the net if the item is still available (partly checking on the price as well) and I found out that the current packaging is not as how we received it. The wine glasses also looked different but I found the same design sold separately.

By the way, it's not that I am after the materiality of the present that I consider this item a precious. (well, I could say it's part of it - call me hyprocrite if I don't admit that, right?) It's more of its representation of a country I hold dear in my heart - Ireland. A place I wish my family could visit someday.

Pahina Isang Daan at Isa

I ran into somebody's blog and figured that blogger has added an option to view one's blog site in Filipino. I never explored into that until today when I cleaned my cache and had to change the default language setting (Chinese) in my computer. While looking for "English" in the list, I saw "Filipino" and I thought of choosing it to see how it works. I was thrilled at the thought of it yet upon seeing the seemingly unfitting translations, I asked myself if there's really a need to do that. Sorry, I don't mean to agitate, just my personal thought. Maybe you can see by yourself and share your thoughts about it. On the other side, having Filipino included in the language option means there are millions of Filipino bloggers out there!

Here, see how my post list looks like in Filipino...

And my blogsite in Filipino...

BTW, please note that my subtitle is really in Filipino and is not a direct translation :)

MEME: Linky Love/Viral Linking

I've got several memes to work on but let me start with the easiest one. Fortunately, tags from three of my online friends are basically the same though the list seemed different in one of the three. Anyhow, I'm posting them all here. The idea of this meme is to pass the links around which means that, if we keep the link train going, all of us will have more links. Thanks to Mari of Life Together Starts, Bill of From the Boondocks and Lovelyn of A Raconteur's Attempt for tagging me.

I have randomly selected 5 of you below to be tagged and I hope that you will similarly publish this post in your blog. You will have to tag 5 other bloggers and just keep adding on to the list. (Do not replace, just keep on adding! Yes we hope it will be a long list!)It’s real easy! Tag others and see your Technorati Authority increase exponentially!

The benefits of Viral Linking:

1.One of the fastest ways to see your technorati authority explode!
2.Increase your Google PageRank fast
3.Attract large volume of new traffic to your site
4.Build your community
5.Make new friends!

I'm tagging Andi's Mommy, Life is like a Box of Chocolates, Our Niche, and Skraekja

The rules from Bill's Linky Love Train Meme are as follows:
1. Write a short paragraph at the beginning of your post and link back to the blog that put you on the list in the paragraph. This isn’t a suggestion. You need to break up the duplicate content. Someone took the time to add you so the least you can do is give them an extra link back.
2. Copy the list of originals below COMPLETELY and add it to your blog. If you would like a different keyword for your blog then change it when you do your post and it should pass to most blogs with that keyword.
3. Take the adds from the blog that added you and place them in the “Originals” list.
4. Add at least 1 new blog that you KNOW is using the DO FOLLOW plugin to the list in the “My Adds” section.
5. Let the people you’ve added know, so that they can keep the list going!

And these are the people who already took part on this tag:*The Strategist Notebook *Link Addiction *Ardour of the Heart *When Life Becomes a Book *The Malaysian Life *Yogatta.com *What goes under the sun *Roshidan’s Cyber Station *Sasha says *Arts of Physics *Dagboek *Dutch converted Asian *Enjoy Your Meal *And the legend lives *My View, My Life! *Pusang Maganda *Spontaneity *Maruism *Wapita *Unforeseen Existence *Ako ay Tamad *The Balmy Zephyr *bhabypau *KiCHi *Mae-Mae *Gayle *Karen Dayle *http://phinkness.com/ * Karen -AP- * pinkyish *Kritz *Ninah * Laine * Youngmaze* Homeworked *A Raconteur's AttemptA Simple Life Juliana RW The Callalily SpacePetra Summer in Blue Confessions of an Army Wife Bless’ Sanctuary Happy Life http://bless519.bravejournal.com/ La Place de Cherie, Chez Francine, Le bric a brac de Cherie, Little Peanut, Pea in a Pod, The Creative In Me, Me and Mine , Me and my Two Boys, My Life is Peachy , http://bless519.bravejournal.com/ Memories Frozen in Time My Joys My Charmed Life, The Working Mom, Online Raket, Practical Tips and More, Food Drink Atbp, A Housewife's Journal, Life Together Starts *Page 101

Ninety Five

Wow, who would have thought of blogging at the age of 95?

I bumped into this site while surfing the net and I thought I'd have it shared in my blog. I am actually surprised to learn that a "lola" is blogging HERE. It made me ask myself - "will I reach that age?" and "would I be blogging if I were her?"

Addicted to blogging

One of my friends way back highschool, Hannah, worked around this CMA logo for our group Joseans_92 and eventually, it has been grabbed by the group members and has been posted in their own blogs attesting their "addiction" to blogging in multiply. It has been for several months now but I never really thought of grabbing it for myself as I thought I'm not a blog addict, just a blog regular.

Today, I came across a blog that posted a means of measuring how addicted one is on blogging. Finding it interesting and knowing that I have blogged most of the time recently drove me to check my level of blog addiction and to my surprise, I am just 67% addicted. I expected to get higher rating but then if I get that, it would mean that I am not really doing anything at work anymore except to blog meaning - posting in my site, visiting the links in my blogroll, leaving comments here and there and hopping from one blog to the other. And yes, I really do that.

I think getting 67% and putting the CMA logo in my blog do not call for rehab yet so I can still go on with my regular blogging activities. On second thought, I wonder what the rehab activities will be if I hit 100% blog addiction. Nah, rehab for me simply means locking myself out from the internet and spending all my time with my daughter.

Now, how about you check your own level of blog addiction and see if your rating is really matches your blogging activities? I found this fun so I thought of passing it on from here.

Somebody needs to win a free domain - PLEASE BE OF HELP

Lovelyn of "A Raconteur's Attempt" is staging some form of web campaign to help Bill of "From the Boondocks" win a free domain contest run by Tina of "mygoodfinds.org". As Bill is a "kailyan" from the Cordilleras, I asked Lovelyn if I can copy her idea and campaign for Bill in my blog and she willingly said yes. Bill desperately needs a domain of his own so he could compile all his articles in a website he can really call his own and will soon have his site's URL "http://igorotblogger.com/. Sounds nice, right? Please help us by visiting his quest HERE and another attempt HERE. It's as easy as getting into his site and clicking all the links he placed for the votes to be counted in. This is not a political thing, promise! If Bill will win, he's in the second spot right now, we'd all have a cup of native coffee pouring from somebody else's "takore". Let's make this real.

TEA on my phone

"IT IS better to be deprived of food for three days, than tea for one," so goes a popular Chinese saying. Line from "The wonders of tea" article of Sunstar Davao.

We all know how tea or cha/tsa/tsa-a/it-cha became a regular part of most people's daily meals. This is especially true here in Taiwan. Tea comes in different varieties and costs. It surprised us a lot to see a bag of tea (around 500grams) worth 10,000NTD and we're even told that there's more to that - a bag tea that can cost as much as 100,000NTD. Definitely, I won't buy either. Those amounts are really very very expensive I'd rather buy an electronic stuff that can't be dispensed that fast. But for sure, tea lovers won't mind that cost, don't you think?

The history of the origin of tea comes a long way back and I just learned today that there's still a debate about it's country of origin - China or India.

In our office, I see how people love tea and I see how our officemates brew their teas at any time of the day. Most of them prefer the loose tea (no bags) and they'd have the common glass container with a filter on top where the tea leaves are placed and soaked in the water. For others, they mix it in the water and let the leaves settle at the bottom. Some prefer it served hot while others do like them cold.

It also comes great with milk - it's called nay-cha ("nay" or "nai" means milk). This is a very popular drink here in Taiwan at any time of the year as they come hot or cold. They'd also use the tea to boil the eggs that makes the egg-white turn into brown. They're commonly sold in the stores - some with pungent smells ( but don't know where the smell comes from) and they're also served in our cafeteria during lunch or dinner.

Teabags are also used in spas where they are placed on the eyes for the sake of relaxation.

But here in Taiwan, one of the many other uses uses of tea (in a teabag, not the loose ones) that I learned is it's application as telephone "deodorant" if I may call it that way. Yes, it works pretty well. You see, they don't have rubbing alcohols here ( we only get them from the Pinoy stores) and they don't clean their handsets but you'd see a bag of tea in the area where the phone's mouthpiece is placed. I don't know if other nationalities do these but this really amazed me. If you'd ask if I have a teabag in my phone set, my answer is "YES, I do", not only in my office phone but also at home. I love the smell of tea each time I pick up the phone to answer a call or to ring somebody. Who would have thought of that? Now, if you want to try it, please note that it won't work to old modelled home phones like this. You may ask why and I'll tell you "isn't it obvious?"

Parenting job anyone?

I've been thinking of looking for a new job opportunity lately as my "self-declared deadline" is fast approaching. The decision is still open as to whether or not I will pursue my plan of quitting even if I don't find a new job. Somehow, one of my wishes is to try being a "stay at home mother/wife" even for some time only. I have already uploaded my CV in a data bank and had it sent out to a friend too.

Then, I received a "job advertisement" from a friend and reading it made me think "is this really how parenting is described if it were put in the ads?". If so, do you wanna apply?

Job Description: PARENT

POSITION: Mom, Mommy, Mama, Ma, Dad, Daddy, Dada, Pa, Pop

JOB DESCRIPTION:

  • Long term, team players needed, for challenging permanent work in an, often chaotic environment.

  • Candidates must possess excellent communication and organizational skills and be willing to work variable hours, which will include evenings and weekends and frequent 24 hour shifts on call.
  • Some overnight travel required, including trips to primitive camping sites on rainy weekends and endless sports tournaments in far away cities! Travel expenses not reimbursed.
  • Extensive courier duties also required.

RESPONSIBILITIES :

  • The rest of your life.
  • Must be willing to be hated, at least temporarily, until someone needs $5.
  • Must be willing to bite tongue repeatedly.
  • Also, must possess the physical stamina of a pack mule and be able to go from zero to 60 mph in three seconds flat in case, this time, the screams from the backyard are not someone just crying wolf.
  • Must be willing to face stimulating technical challenges, such as small gadget repair, mysteriously sluggish toilets and stuck zippers.
  • Must screen phone calls, maintain calendars and coordinate production of multiple homework projects. Must have ability to plan and organize social gatherings for clients of all ages and mental outlooks.

  • Must be willing to be indispensable one minute, an embarrassment the next.
  • Must handle assembly and product safety testing of a half million cheap, plastic toys, and battery operated devices.
  • Must always hope for the best but be prepared for the worst.

  • Must assume final, complete accountability for the quality of the end product.
  • Responsibilities also include floor maintenance and janitorial work throughout the facility.

POSSIBILITY FOR ADVANCEMENT & PROMOTION:

None. Your job is to remain in the same position for years, without complaining, constantly retraining and updating your skills, so that those in your charge can ultimately surpass you

PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE:

None required unfortunately. On-the-job training offered on a continually exhausting basis.

WAGES AND COMPENSATION:

Get this! You pay them! Offering frequent raises and bonuses. A balloon payment is due when they turn 18 because of the assumption that college will help them become financially independent. When you die, you give them whatever is left. The oddest thing about this reverse-salary scheme is that you actually enjoy it and wish you could only do more.

BENEFITS : While no health or dental insurance, no pension, no tuition reimbursement, no paid holidays and no stock options are offered; this job supplies limitless opportunities for personal growth, unconditional love, and free hugs and kisses for life, if you play your cards right.

FOOTNOTE "THERE IS NO RETIREMENT -- EVER!!!

Unpredictable weather and what comes with it

Yesterday, Dennis went to our apartment ahead as I needed to fetch Jade on the second floor. When we arrived, I was surprised to see that the aircon in the living room has been turned on because we have been using only the fans for one week now. I asked Dennis why and he told me "parang pugon ang init ng bahay pagpasok ko." (The apartment is very hot, it's like an oven when I got in.")

I went to our room to change and whoa, it was really very very warm even if he already turned on the fan minutes earlier and even if we left the windows opened. I am glad he turned on the aircon otherwise we'll be suffocated. The weather has been weird lately. We thought it's starting to get cold, it's supposed to be autumn now, but no. The weather condition has caused us to get sick and when we thought we were already mending, it started to get warm again so the another set of virus attacked us. The temperature ranges from 28degC to 33degC almost like summer.

Jade and I have been sick almost two weeks ago, we both had our set of medicines - yes, several of them. Unlike in the Philippines where a one or two capsule/s can cover cough and colds plus body pain and headache, here in Taiwan, we get at least 5 different tablets. One or two is/are for cough, another is for the colds, one is for headache, the other is for the body pain and the doctor would even add some syrups. The syrups for the kids are fruity flavored but the common black fluid for the adults tastes so odd. We're finishing up on our medicines by tomorrow. We're set to have this year's flu vaccine shot not far from now.
.....

The huge swimming pool in our compound has been drained since last week but it seems to me that they should have extended the facility until it really gets cold. I think most people still think that dipping into the pool could still be of ease at this time of the year. The unoccassional rains don't really help that much.
.....

Heat rashes became very visible in Jade's body today even with the application of Fissan prickly heat powder and constant lotioning. She got it from the warm weather and also had her share of diaper rash. We bought the usual brand earlier this evening and decided to keep the unused new diapers. I gave it a try for budget's sake but it didn't really work.
.....

Turning on the aircon alone in the room still makes Jade sweat at some points in the night. Her sweat is literally "ga-monggo sized" (green bean sized) so I had to wake up regularly to wipe her head, nape, check her back and change her position. For the past two nights, I thought of turning on the fan as well. Luckily it helped. No more sweats all through the night.
.....

Ate Rosie noticed Jade's rashes today so she also decided to use the aircon. Good thing, they got it fixed yesterday. Now, she and her hubby no longer need to drag the cushion out from the bedrroom to set up in their living room. They've been sleeping in their sala for more than one month now as their bedroom's aircon has given up.

The famous "tambay" visited me ... (in my multiply abode)

I regularly check who's visiting my site and BTW, thanks to you dear friends who are sparing me your time reading my blog and looking at the pictures I posted.

When I added a link to the famous tambay's blogsite, I saw that he came in to visit me. Whoa! I think I was actually grinning when I saw a Batjay in my visitors' list. I am privileged. Though he just actually checked on my link to his site, maybe to see that I described it well, I am still glad he did. It meant to me that he cared about those bloggers promoting his blogsite, which by the way was chosen as 2007's best OFW blog.

Don't you worry Batjay, I will continue to promote your site. :)

PS. I wonder how he came to know that I added his website on my link's list .....

Taga Baguio ka isu?

When I saw the forwarded email entitled "Taga Baguio ka isu? "sent by one of my dear friends, I thought it's similar to what I have received some time ago with the same tone of title. But when I opened it, I figured it's different from the other email, which I think got into many people's inboxes. So is with this email chain. I found it funny and yeah, some true which I can relate to. There are very few that I amazingly wasn't aware of but then, hey, I am from the highlands anyway.

Then I thought, shouldn't the title be "Igorot ka isu?"? What do you think?

Two years + in blogging

I realized I've been posting several journals online for more than 2 years now. I officially started blogging on May of 2005. That was when I belonged to the jobless world and trying to work on getting a dependent visa for me to be able to be with Dennis in Taiwan. We moved to a new apartment and applied for an internet connection to have something to keep me busy while I stay home. I wasn't granted the desired visa but luckily one of the pinoys working in the project management department decided to pursue a better career somewhere so I eventually got a working visa on September that year but I was able to get back to Taiwan with a tourist visa on August. Since I didn't have a continuous internet access, blogging was set aside until after I was back to Taiwan. I made several attempts to improve my web blog but accidentally ended up with a lost one for reasons I was not able to figure out. Maybe the Chinese characters I selected meant "delete this blog". There were only few entries then but it would have been nice to have kept them til now. Anyway, I had to start all over again.

It's nice to revisit those that I have recorded earlier as they are able bring back memories of the happier days or any particular emotion that were apparent those journals were written. I really don't know til when this will go on but as far as I am concerned, I'll just keep on going. BTW, even if I moved to multiply, I still maintain my blogger site, my original web abode.

First Christmas Tune

I played our first Christmas tune at home today. We only have two christmas CD's at home and I opted to play the medley. It feels good to hear them. Jade as usual dance with the music.

C.A.D.D.

This was forwarded to me by a friend. I laughed after I read it because it hit me hahaha. I thought of posting it here so you may know the other side of me. Read on...

If you have been secretly wondering what is wrong with
me, I now have the answer...

Recently, I was diagnosed with C. A. A. D. D. (Child
Activated Attention Deficit Disorder)

This is how it manifests:

I decide to do the laundry. As I start toward the
laundry room, I notice that there are cheerios all over
the floor and my car keys are in the cereal bowl.

I decide to pick up the cheerios before I do the
laundry. I lay m y car keys down on the counter, put
the cheerios in the trash can under the counter, and
notice that the trash can is full. So, I decide to
take out the trash.

But then I think, since I'm going to be near the
mailbox when I take out the trash I may as well pay
the bills first. I take my checkbook off the table,
and see that there is only one check left, my extra
checks are in my desk in the office/playroom, so I go
to my desk where I find a sippy cup full of juice. I'm
going to look for my checks, but first I decide I
should put the sippy cup in the refrigerator to keep
it cold.

As I head toward the kitchen with the sippy cup a vase
of flowers on the counter catches my eye - they need
to be watered. I set the sippy cup on the counter, and
I discover baby wipes that I've been searching for all
morning. I decide I better put them ba ck in the
bathroom, but first I'm going to water the flowers.

I set the wipes back down and splash some water on the
flowers, but most of it spills on the floor. So, I get
some paper towels and wipe up the spill.

Then I head down the hall trying to remember what I
was planning to do.

At the end of the day: the laundry isn't washed, the
bills aren't paid, there is a warm cup of juice
sitting on the counter, the flowers aren't watered,
there is still only one check in my checkbook, I can't
find the wipes, and I don't remember what I did with
the car keys.

Then when I try to figure out why nothing got done
today, I'm really baffled because I know I was busy
all day long, and I'm really tired.

I realize this is a serious problem, and I'll try to
get some help for it, but first I'll check my e-mail.

Do me a favor, will you? Forward this message, because
I don't remember to whom it has been sent.

Don't laugh - if this isn't you yet, your day is coming.
